ANS releases economic and financial data for the first half of 2026
The supplementary health sector recorded total revenues of R$ 206.3 billion and accumulated net income of R$ 12.1 billion in the first half, equivalent to approximately 5.8% of revenues. The result was lower than the R$ 12.9 billion recorded in the same period of 2025.
Among medical-hospital operators, net income reached R$ 10.9 billion and operating income reached R$ 5.6 billion. The aggregate loss ratio was 81.9%, an increase of 0.8 percentage point compared with the first half of 2025, although it still represents the second lowest level since 2020.
The financial investments of medical-hospital operators totaled R$ 142.4 billion. The sector’s financial result reached R$ 7.5 billion, the highest nominal value in the historical series.
Analysis: the sector maintains a positive aggregate result, but a significant portion of the profit stems from financial income boosted by interest rates. The increase in the loss ratio and the difference between net and operating results call for a separate analysis by operator type and size, also taking into account the atypical events pointed out by the Agency.
643rd Meeting of the Board of Directors
ANS will hold its 643rd Ordinary Meeting of the Board of Directors tomorrow, Sep 18, at 10 a.m. Relevant agenda items include:
a decision on a technology positively recommended by Conitec, for assessment of its incorporation into the Rol;
a report on the end of Eliane Medeiros’s term as head of the Directorate of Oversight; and
ratification of the temporary suspension of the effectiveness of Regimental Resolution No. 38/2026, concerning the internal structure of the Directorate of Sector Development (Analysis: the measure is exclusively administrative in nature and seeks to regularize the transition to the new DIDES structure by temporarily postponing the effects of the reorganization of positions. The Board of Directors’ ratification will merely confirm the decision taken by the chief executive director and does not modify regulatory powers, coverage rules or operators’ obligations. It is of interest only from the perspective of internal organization and the continuity of the projects conducted by the Directorate of Sector Development.)
